If you don't know, I have an Instagram for my cat. Yes, my cat. And his IG is 1000% more impressive than my personal IG will ever be. (@_lilsmokes) He's the most precious and stubborn model I've ever worked with but the results are always worth it. I figured I'd make an entire blog post dedicated to the story of him because he's a special boy.
Now, when I tell you that I never thought my husband would let me keep our cat, I mean it. My grandma's cat had a litter of kittens and when I saw this teeny little bean with white paws, I DIED. I immediately started to try and convince my husband to let us keep him, but had no luck. So, I finally came to terms with letting this baby go (or so I thought). When the kittens were free to leave their mama, I brought the little guy to San Jose in hopes of giving him a new home. Just to ensure that my husband didn't freak out, I waited until he was asleep to come home. I can't begin to explain how confused he was when he got up to pee and there was a little fluff ball sitting in the bathroom. I assured him that he would be gone within the week and went off to work.
Despite the fact that I knew I couldn't keep the kitten, I couldn't help but name him. I wanted to name him Eevie. (yes, I know, IT'S GIRLY) However, when I got home from work, my husband had renamed him Lil Smokes. I asked him what the heck he was calling him and he said he didn't know his name so he just started calling him that. AND IT STUCK. All it took was a couple hours with Lil Smokes and my husband was in love. Absolutely could not let him go. So here we are, over a year later and the cat that I wanted so desperately to keep has become my husband's best friend.
It cannot be any more obvious that our Smokie boy has a favorite parent by a long shot. I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm definitely the strict parent so I don't blame him. I'm also the one who dresses him up in outfits and makes little sets for photos. I can't help it, he's just so fluffy. He's such a good model that he's been recognized by brands like Otterpops and Crystal Head Vodka.
